Position: Collection Development Librarian

Job Summary:
The Collection Development Librarian is responsible for managing and developing the library's collection of materials, ensuring that it meets the needs of library users and aligns with the institution's mission and strategic goals. This position requires expertise in library science, knowledge of emerging trends in information resources, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to build a comprehensive and relevant collection.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement collection development policies and procedures to guide the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and deselection of library materials.
2. Assess the needs of library users and work closely with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to identify collection priorities.
3. Conduct ongoing evaluation of the library's collection to ensure its relevance, currency, and alignment with user needs.
4. Collaborate with subject specialists, librarians, and faculty members to identify and acquire resources that support academic programs and research.
5. Utilize bibliographic tools, databases, and other resources to research, evaluate, and recommend new materials for purchase.
6. Manage the library's acquisitions budget, negotiate with vendors, and ensure cost-effective and timely procurement of materials.
7. Maintain accurate records of acquisitions, subscriptions, and expenditures, and generate reports as required.
8. Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in collection development, librarianship, and information resources.
9. Provide expertise and guidance to library staff and users on copyright issues, fair use, and licensing agreements.
10. Collaborate with library colleagues to develop and deliver training programs on collection development and resource evaluation.
11. Participate in professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to collection development.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
2. Proven experience in collection development, acquisitions, or related areas within a library setting.
3. Solid understanding of library systems, resource discovery tools, and bibliographic databases.
4. Familiarity with emerging trends in librarianship, digital resources, and open access initiatives.
5. Strong analytical and research skills to evaluate the relevance and quality of information resources.
6. Excellent organizational and project management abilities, with attention to detail.
7. Proficient in using library management systems, integrated library systems, or related software.
8. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and vendors.
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
10. Demonstrated commitment to professional development and staying abreast of evolving library practices and technologies.
